Grand Master Lam Jo was born in 1910 in Ping Chow, Kwangtung province China. His parents passed away when he was a young boy. He was adopted by his uncle Lam Sai Wing. He began his training at the age of 6 under the guidance his uncle.

After the fall of the Ching Dynasty Lam Jo went to live to Hong Kong with his uncle. In Hong Kong Lam Sai Wing set up the Southern Martial Culture Association where Grand Master Lam Jo assisted his uncle by teaching Hung Gar and eventually took over the school.

Lam Jo SiKung was only sixteen years old when he began teaching the art of Hung Gar. He was admired by all and called SiFu even at that age. Later, he set up his own Kung Fu school and Dit Da clinic in Hong Kong. Grand Master Lam Jo also taught Kung Fu at the first branch school of Lam Sai Wing and in 1933 he took over Lam Sai Wing's second branch which was formerly run by his younger Kung Fu brother Dan Hinchoi. After taking over the second branch school Lam Jo SiKung changed the name of the school to "Lam Jo Chinese Martial Art School/ Institute".

During the 1930's in one event for the British military, Lam Jo was invited to perform. The audience was amazed by Grand Master Lam Jo's performance, photos and articles about the performance where published in a London newspaper as well as local newspapers in Hong Kong.
